Panasonic Group is a global manufacturer of electronics that engages in the production and sales of electrical appliances. In 1978, government leaders from China visited its television factory in Japan. During their negotiations, Matushita Konosuke, founder of Panasonic Group, expressed his commitment to China. Subsequently, this Group launched business in China; and during the next few years, it dedicated its effort to product export and technical cooperation with Chinese factories. Up till this day, Panasonic Group has over 80 enterprises in mainland China (including Hong Kong) and around 100,000 employees (including Panasonic Electric Works Group). Its business covers research and development, production, sales, service, logistics and advertising.

As a response to China's hi-tech strategy for 21st century, Panasonic Group is going to establish a new company with main business as research and development in Zhongguancun of Beijing, for the intention of enhancing the capability of design and manufacture locally.
